CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Excellent baby carrier (worn on the front). Really easy to use (once you've read instructions and practised a few times), it's also very comfortable to wear even for a whole day's shopping. The "pod" can be clipped off and used in a car seat which is ideal if baby is sleeping. It can also be used as a changing mat. Baby can face out once the head can be controlled. Has a little "rain cover" included and a "dribble bib" for when facing into the chest. There is a little pocket on the pack which is ideal for a small purse and car keys. Both my husband and I use this and have no regrets in having purchased it as it's so comfortable.

We love this. My daughter adores it and thinks its the finest way to travel. I find it comfortable and still wear it even though she's over the max weight limit now. The only thing I would note is that it doesn't fit my husband. He's tall - about 6.5 - and its really uncomfortable on him - but other carriers we've used have been the same, in fairness. I still love the cocoon and would recommend it to everyone.

This carrier is great for newborns when you are carrying with them facing into you. Very comfy with good weight distribution. However because the baby's weight is away from the body when facing in there comes a time when this method is too much of a strain on your back. With our baby (8.5lbs at birth) this was about 4 months. So we changed to facing outwards which was more comfy for the parent as the weight is closer to the body but it puts the baby in a starfish kind of shape due to the arms being held back and we didn't feel this was good for her. Also on two occasions the cocoon came unclipped at the waist when I slipped over. So all in all an OK carrier but not the best in my opinion.
