I got this when DD was about 11 months and my Mei Tei was becoming less comfortable. Found the Ergo incredibly comfortable and supportive on front, but not so good on the back as your baby is just facing your back and not able to see much.

The other fault with the Ergo is it's really difficult to do up the chest strap if the baby is on your front.

It's been great while she's still been on the front but I want something higher for the back now so am going to trade it in for a Beco - will review that later!

This carrier was an answer to prayer. I have had trouble with other carriers not spreading the weight of the baby well. This one doesn't make my back ache. It is very quick and easy to put on and off (once I'd watched the instructional dvd twice!) and my baby has slept happily in it since he was 3 weeks old.

Been through a lot of baby carriers and believe me this is the most comfortable and easy to use by miles.

I have a 21 month girl and since I got the ergo a year ago I've dtiched my buggy and use these all the time. It may not be as pretty as some but it's a great design.

Sorry to hear about the company not quite living up to the relaxed image on the (you're right its very cheesy)dvd.

That said, the ergo has been great for me and glad to know its structurally sound for LO.

I tried LO in a wrap sling from birth - but unfortunately he wouldn't settle in it (couldn't swaddle him either), so tried him in this structured carrier and he's very happy. He falls asleep in it if he wants to, but we haven't got the hang of feeding him in it.

I found it very easy to put on and put LO into. The small pocket at the front of the carrier is handy for purse and keys when at the shops.

The straps adjust easily and are pretty intuitive. Dh and I are completely different shapes and heights and it only takes a few seconds to change to suit.

I bought the infant insert, as LO was 2 1/2 months but off the height centile chart, and found it unsuitable. He's a big chap at 4 months, but feels very light in the front position. I haven't tried the back position yet; and i'm looking forward to being able to do more whilst wearing him.

Bought this (before I'd heard about the politics surrounding the company) directly from the ergo website in Germany. Had some problems with the delivery as the courier/shipping company lost the address label and it was eventually sent back to ergo. So it took several weeks to arrive.

It is a good 'gateway' carrier for first timers. Easy to get to grips with. However, for petite women the shoulder straps tend to slip off and the waistbelt is oversized. I found that once my daughter was mobile she could lean too far backwards when on my back. I only had the classic and I understand the New Generation has a higher back support.

There are similar carriers on the market that are also more attractive and 'ergo'nomically designed and slimlined and about the same price so it pays to look around.

The recent business practices of Ergo has recently become controversial so for those with concerns in this area you may want to read this thread: http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1012&threadid=478974#9672091
